Current, Raikes sign with USI softball
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team announced that freshman utility player Kambria Current (Indianapolis, Indiana) and freshman infielder/outfielder Lindsay Raikes (Speedway, Indiana) have signed national letters of intent to play for Head Coach Sue Kunkle's Screaming Eagles in 2007.
Current is a senior at Scecina Memorial High School where she hit .344 and posted a 0.62 ERA as a junior. She hit .311 and posted a 0.83 ERA as a sophomore in 2004.
An All-City and All-East performer, Current is a three-time All-Tournament selection in the Crusader Classic, earning Most Outstanding Player honors in 2006. She has helped SMHS to a pair of city and sectional championships as well as one regional championship. SMHS was finished second in the region in 2005.
"Kambria brings a great deal of depth to our pitching staff as well as contend for a spot in the outfield and at first base." Kunkle said. "She will be an immediate impact in the offensive lineup."
Raikes is a senior at Speedway High School where she earned eight varsity letters in basketball and softball. She earned All-County and All-Conference honors in softball and was an All-County West performer on the hardwood.
In summer ball, Raikes helped the Indy Crush to the Hoosier State Championship as well as a berth at the 2005 ASA National Championships in Columbus, Georgia.
"Lindsey definitely brings more speed to our program," Kunkle said. "As an infielder and an outfielder, her versatility will add more options to our lineup."
Current and Raikes join junior pitchers Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) and Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana), junior catcher/infielder Courtney Bates (Boonville, Indiana), and freshman utility player Brooke Pennington (Evansville, Indiana) on USI's list of incoming players in 2007.
