Eagles ink Henderson County High School standout
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team announced that freshman catcher Tara McConnell (Henderson, Kentucky) has signed a national letter of intent to play for Head Coach Sue Kunkle's Screaming Eagles in 2007.
McConnell is a senior at Henderson County High School where she has earned varsity letters in softball and basketball. She has helped HCHS to three district championships as well as the 2005 regional championship. HCHS finished third in the KHSAA State Tournament in 2005.
An All-District performer in 2004 as well as an Academic All-State performer in 2003, McConnell has batted .370 with her travel team. She helped her travel team to the ASA (A) Indiana State Championship.
"Tara is a great grab for our program," Kunkle said. "She will be looked at for playing time behind the plate as well as working at other positions in the infield and outfield. She has great enthusiasm for the sport and will fit in well with our team."
McConnell joins junior pitchers Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) and Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana) junior catcher/infielder Courtney Bates (Boonville, Indiana) freshmen utility players Kambria Current (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Brooke Pennington (Evansville, Indiana) and freshman infielder/outfielder Lindsay Raikes (Speedway, Indiana) on USI's list of incoming players in 2007.
