Eagles rank 25th among NCAA II schools in GPA,
Six Eagles honored by NFCA as scholar-athletes
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team ranked 25th in the NCAA Division II a year ago with a 3.278 team grade point average.
USI had six players recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association as scholar-athletes for having a 3.5 GPA for the 2005-06 academic year. The Screaming Eagles had one player with a 4.0 GPA, while 12 of their 14 players earned a 3.1 GPA or better in 2005-06.
Among the Eagles that earned scholar-athlete recognition was Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana), Kerrie Burton (Kokomo, Indiana), Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glenn, Illinois), Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana), Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana), and Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana).
USI finished the 2006 season with a 39-18 overall record, 17-5 in the GLVC, and was 22nd in the final NFCA Top 25 poll after finishing third in the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament.
The Eagles enter 2007 under the direction of sixth-year Head Coach Sue Kunkle, who has amassed a 153-98 (.610) record during her first five seasons at the helm the USI softball program. Kunkle was the GLVC Coach of the Year in 2006.
