Eagles travel to Lewis, UW-Parkside

EVANSVILLE, Ind.The University of Southern Indiana softball team will face one of its toughest road trips of the season this weekend when it travels to Romeoville, Illinois, to take on No. 15-ranked Lewis University Saturday and to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to square off with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday. Both GLVC doubleheaders are slated for noon start times.

USI (15-11, 2-2 GLVC) was 1-2 against the Lewis Flyers a year ago. The Screaming Eagles split the regular season-series with the Flyers before dropping a hard-fought contest to Lewis in the conference tournament. Since 2000, the Eagles are 7-14 (.333) against the Flyers.

Lewis (17-4, 6-0 GLVC) is one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 16 straight games after starting the season with a 1-4 record.

Saturday's games mark the first time USI will play in Romeoville since the 2004 season, when the Eagles lost both games of a GLVC doubleheader to the Flyers. USI's last victory over the Flyers in Romeoville was in 2002 when the Eagles defeated Lewis, 1-0, in the GLVC Tournament.

The Eagles are looking to continue a two-game winning streak over the UW-Parkside Rangers Sunday after sweeping the season-series a year ago. USI's last victory over the Rangers in Kenosha also came in the 2002 season when the Eagles defeated UW-Parkside, 8-2, during the regular season.

UW-Parkside (11-8, 2-2 GLVC), which leads the series since 2000, 8-7, hosts Winona State University today and No. 5-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday before taking on USI on Sunday.

Leading the Eagles, offensively, is sophomore shortstop Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana). McKinley is hitting .360 with a GLVC-best 11 doubles to go along with a team-high 20 RBIs.

Junior hurlers Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) and Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) are both coming off impressive victories. Harrison (8-4) threw a two-hit shutout against the University of Missouri-St. Louis, while Eickholt (3-2) did not give up an earned run in USI's 4-2 victory over the Riverwomen on Monday.
