Eagles announce early signings
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team announced that infielder Stephanie Bittner (Evansville, Indiana) and outfielder Katherine Belsito (Greenwood, Indiana) have signed national letters of intent to play for Head Coach Sue Kunkle's Screaming Eagles in 2010.
Bittner is currently a senior at Mater Dei High School where she has earned 12 varsity letters in softball, basketball, and soccer. In 2008, Bittner hit .419 with 17 RBIs and 10 stolen bases en route to earning first-team All-City, All-Metro, and All-District honors.
Belsito is currently a senior at Center Grove High School where she has earned varsity letters in softball. The 2007 Golden Glove Award winner earned All-Metro South honors as a junior in 2008 and was named to the All-County squad in 2007 and 2006. She helped lead CGHS to a semifinal appearance in the 2006 class 4A IHSAA State Tournament and a section title in 2007.
CGHS also captured conference titles in 2006 and 2007 as well as county championships in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
"Stephanie and Katherine will make an immediate impact to our defensive and offensive line ups next year," Kunkle said. "Stephanie has been a very good defensive shortstop and gives us depth to our middle infield. Katherine is a very talented and experienced outfielder that gives us a strong left-handed presence at the plate."
