USI volleyball sweeps past Kentucky Wesleyan

The University of Southern Indiana volleyball hit .374 and recorded 12 service aces as it swept Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3-0, Tuesday night at the Woodward Center in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Screaming Eagles improve to 15-6 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Panthers drop to 3-18 overall and 0-6 in the GLVC.
Newburgh, Indiana native Laura Ellerbusch (Castle) and Mt. Vernon, Indiana, native Greta Grinstead (Mt. Vernon) led the Eagles with nine kills each. Grinstead finished with a match-high .643 attacking percentage while Ellerbusch record a career-high four blocks and hit .615 in 13 attacking attempts.
Junior setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a match-high 42 assists and 10 digs in the win.
The Eagles opened the match with a .500 hitting percentage in the first game. Senior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) recorded five of her match-high six service aces to lead USI to a 30-8 victory in game one.
After recording a 30-17 victory in game two, the Eagles received help from senior outside hitter Kristi Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) in the third game. Kavanugh recorded 6 of her 7 kills in the third game and finished with a .429 attacking percentage as well as 4 service aces.
USI will return home this Saturday, October 19, as it takes on Quincy University at the Physical Activities Center. Match-time is slated for a 2 p.m. start. The Eagles defeated Quincy, 3-0, at the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Illinois, earlier in the season.
