USI’s Farmer, Cooksey record NCAA provisional times,
Farmer sets new school mark in 5,000 meters
Results
University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field runners Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) and Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) recorded NCAA Division II qualifying times this past weekend at the Cannon IV in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Farmer, a junior, qualified in the 5,000 meters after finishing 18th with a school-record indoor time of 17:57.70. Cooksey, a freshman, qualified in the mile after finishing 14th with a time of 5:04.20.
USI also had six men’s competitors in the meet.
Juniors Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Indiana) and Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) finished 23rd and 30th, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Byrne crossed the finish line with a time of 15:09.38 while Thurner finished with a time of 15.20.76.
Freshman Eric Fleming (Valparaiso, Indiana) and sophomore Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) finished 23rd and 24th, respectively, in the mile. Fleming came in with a time of 4:21.45 while Schwartz finished with a time of 4:21.76. Freshman Jake England (Valparaiso, Indiana) finished 26th in the mile with a time of 4:23.09.
Freshman Robert Garwood (Columbus, Indiana) finished 31st in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:09.27.
