USI men’s soccer continues to be perfect GLVC

The 21st-ranked University of Southern Indiana soccer team exploded for three goals in the final 20 minutes to record a 3-0 road victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky. USI raises its record to 8-4-0 overall and a perfect 7-0-0 in the GLVC, while KWC falls to 1-10-1 overall, 0-6-1 GLVC.
USI senior midfielder Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) scored his team-best fifth goal and fifth game-winner at the 71:05 mark. He scored off a pass from senior midfielder Duncan Bray (Scotland), who was awarded his team-high sixth assist of the year.
The Eagle began to pull away in the final three minutes when senior back Shawn Sloan (St. Peters, Missouri) scored his second goal of the off a pass from freshman forward Tyler Dallas (Evansville, Indiana) to make the score 2-0 at 87:28. USI capped the scoring at 3-0 when freshman forward Ty Walters (Newburgh, Indiana) picked up his first collegiate goal off an assist from Sloan at the 88:46 mark.
Today’s USI victory sets up a showdown of unbeaten teams in the GLVC next weekend when USI travels to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. SIUE defeated University of Indianapolis, 1-0, and is 6-0-0 in the league. That match could be a major step in determining which team will receive a bye and the right to host the GLVC Tournament semifinals and championship match. The GLVC Tournament is scheduled to begin with the first round on November 2, the semifinals on November 7, and the championship match on November 9.
