Ellerbusch earns second straight league honor,
Named GLVC Player of the Week for third time in 2004
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) has been named the GLVC Volleyball Player of the Week for the second straight week and school-record third time this season.
Ellerbusch’s presence at the net helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a pair of victories, including a three-game road sweep of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. SIUE was previously undefeated in conference play heading into that match.
Against SIUE, Ellerbusch recorded seven blocks, four of which came in 33-31 first-game victory, to go along with 13 digs. Her performance helped USI hold the Cougars to a .037 attacking percentage.
Ellerbusch followed that performance with a .429 attacking percentage in a three-game sweep of Bellarmine University. She also had three blocks and four kills in just two games of work.
For the week, Ellerbusch recorded 2.0 kills, 2.0 blocks, and 3.8 digs per game as the Eagles extended their season-high winning streak to six.
USI (12-4 overall, 6-0 GLVC) will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin, Friday to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (7 p.m.) before heading to Romeoville, Illinois, to square off against Lewis University (2 p.m.) on Saturday. The Eagles defeated both teams earlier in the season.
