USI named a USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team has been named an All-Academic team by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Screaming Eagles are one of 99 Division II programs to earn the honor after accumulating a 3.333 team GPA in the fall.

To be eligible for the honor, teams must list all student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and who have competed in 50 percent or more of the cross country competitions on the team's schedule. Additionally, the team must compete at the NCAA Division II regional championships and have a team cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

USI was second as a team at the GLVC Championships before finishing fourth at the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Championships. The Eagles, who were missing two of their top three runners this fall, placed 19th at the NCAA II Championships to finish the season.

Individually, sophomores Sarah Baysden (Shelbyville, Indiana), Sarah Whiteman (Bloomington, Indiana), and Lacy Williams (Haubstadt, Indiana) were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.

To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes also must finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.

Baysden, who finished 58th at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Championship, has amassed a 3.954 GPA in biology. Whiteman was 41st at the regional meet and has tallied a 3.762 GPA in biology, while Williams was 55th at the regional meet and has accumulated a 3.391 GPA in pre-elementary education.
