EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced the hiring of
Tyson Schnitker as assistant coach. Schnitker joins Assistant Coach Aaron Brothers on Head Coach Rick Herdes' staff.
Schnitker will be making the transition from USI player to coach in 2008-09. He was fourth on the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game and led the squad with 3.3 assists per contest in his only season with the Eagles in 2007-08. The native of Robinson, Illinois, had a career-best 30 points against Drury University and six assists in four different games.
Prior to playing last year at USI, Schnitker spent three seasons at Indiana State University. He averaged 7.6 points and 2.1 assists per game in 79 appearances as a Sycamore.
Schnitker will be making the transition from player to coach for the second time in his career. He was a part-time assistant coach at Lincoln Trail College in 2006-07 before transferring to USI last year.
Schnitker earned a master's degree in business administration from USI this summer and a
bachelor's degree in business administration from Indiana State in 2007.
"Tyson has become integral part of our program in a short time and will make major contributions in his new position," said Herdes. "He has a great work ethic and knowledge of the game, along with good people skills to be a great recruiter."
