USI to submit NCAA violations concerning men's basketball program
EVANSVILLE, Ind.--The University of Southern Indiana Department of Athletics will submit five violations concerning irregularities in the men's basketball program to the NCAA by the end of the week. Three are related to extra benefits concerning transportation, one concerning academics, and the last concerning improper communication with a prospective student-athlete.
As a result, the USI Department of Athletics will self-impose the following penalties:
• Two players deemed ineligible from the beginning of the 2008-09 season. Reinstatement of the student-athletes by the NCAA remains a possibility.
• Forfeiture of all games from the 2008-09 season.
• Return of $9,362 in funds provided by the NCAA Division II for the men's basketball team's participation in the 2009 NCAA II Tournament.
