Six Eagles named to All-GLVC team,
Ballinger, Baysden earn first-team honors

All-GLVC Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team had six student-athletes named to the 2009 All-GLVC squad for their efforts at the GLVC Outdoor Championships earlier this month.

Junior Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) and senior Sarah Baysden (Shelbyville, Indiana) were named to the first team, while juniors Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) and Lacy Williams (Haubstadt, Indiana) as well as sophomore Allison Laird (Greenville, Indiana) and freshman Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Kentucky) earned second-team honors.

Mary Ballinger

Ballinger, who leads the nation in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 10 minutes, 26.73 seconds, accounted for 23 of the Screaming Eagles' 84 team points at the GLVC Championships. She won the steeplechase and took first-place in the 3,000 meters, then helped USI to a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

Sarah Baysden

Baysden, who is earning All-GLVC honors for the third time, won the GLVC title in the 10,000 meters for the second time in three years. Baysden also finished third in the 5,000 meters at the GLVC Championships.

Dixon finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at the GLVC Championships with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of four minutes, 40.32 seconds, while Williams was fourth in the steeplechase and helped USI to the sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

Laird garnered second-team honors after finishing second in the 10,000 meters and seventh in the 5,000 meters at the league meet, while Curtis earned second-team accolades after finishing fourth in the 5,000 meters. Laird also helped USI to a sixth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay at the GLVC Championships.

USI, which finished fifth as a team at the GLVC Championships, will send Ballinger to the NCAA II Outdoor Championships May 21-23. Ballinger, who also had an automatic qualifying time in the 1,500 meters, will concentrate solely on the steeplechase.
