Ballinger breezes into finals of steeplechase,
Goodman, Emerick each finish 14th

SAN ANGELO, Texas—University of Southern Indiana junior All-American
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) breezed by the competition in preliminaries of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Thursday night at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Ballinger advances to Saturday's finals, which are slated for a 5:10 p.m. start.
Ballinger won her heat with a time of 10 minutes, 51.00 seconds, which was more than four seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Overall, Ballinger posted the third-fastest time, but will be seeded second on Saturday due to her first-place finish in her heat.
Men's sophomore
David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana) failed to qualify for Saturday's steeplechase final as he finished eighth in his heat and 14th overall with a time of nine minutes, 38.40 seconds.
Freshman
Dustin Emerick (Elmwood, Illinois) also had a 14th-place showing in the finals of the men's 10,000 meters Thursday night. He finished the race in 31 minutes, 59.34 seconds.
