Eagles sweep past Lady Hawks on road

Senior outside hitters Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) and Kristi Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) combined for 28 kills and 29 digs to lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Quincy University Friday night at the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles improve to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Lady Hawks fall to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the GLVC.
USI used a .381 hitting percentage in the first game to claim a 30-11 win and an early 1-0 advantage in the match. The Eagles closed out the win recorded 16 kills in game two and 19 kills in game three to top the Lady Hawks 30-21 and 30-25.
Junior setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 41 assists and helped the Eagle attackers post a .295 hitting percentage in the match. Wells led USI with 17 kills and 17 digs while tallying a .433 attacking percentage.
Both Wells and Kavanaugh had a team-high four service aces. Kavanaugh entered the top five all-time at USI in career service aces with her performance.
USI will finally get to play at the friendly confines of the Physical Activities Center as it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside next Friday, October 4. The Eagles have been on the road for the last four weekends.
