Wells earns AVCA All-Region honors
University of Southern Indiana senior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association Great Lakes All-Region team. It is the first time in Wells’ four-year career that she has been named to the AVCA All-Region team. She earned Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region as a sophomore and a junior.
Wells helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a 26-8 record, their first Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship, and their first berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Her performance in the NCAA II Tournament (5.29 kills and 4.29 digs per game) netted her All-Tournament honors. Wells finished the season with a GLVC-best 4.81 kills and 1.09 service aces to go along with a team-high 3.98 digs per game.
After helping lead the Eagles to an 11-3 conference mark and the GLVC Green Division title, Wells was selected as the GLVC “Player of the Year” and was named first-team All-GLVC for the third straight season.
Wells finished her career at USI as the school’s all-time career leader in kills (1,866), digs (1,353), and service aces (319). She also ranks second all-time in career hitting percentage (.285) at USI.
Wells is the third player in USI history to earn AVCA All-Region honors. She joins fellow teammate Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio), who earned AVCA All-Region honors as a sophomore in 2001, and former USI standout Sheri Kaiser (1993).
