USI volleyball opening season at home,
Defending national champions featured in home-and-home series
For the first time since 1999, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team will open its season at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles will host the USI Invitational Friday and Saturday, August 27-28 to get the 2004 campaign underway.
The USI Invitational will feature five teams—USI, University of Central Arkansas, University of Alabama-Huntsville, University of Indianapolis, and Lincoln Memorial University—and will feature four matches on each day. USI will play Central Arkansas, Alabama-Huntsville, and Lincoln Memorial.
Following the USI Invitational, the Eagles will travel to Allendale, Michigan, to compete in the Days Inn Classic Friday and Saturday, September 3-4. USI will compete against the University of South Dakota, Truman State University, Lake Superior State University, and the University of North Dakota.
A week later, the Eagles will face defending Great Lakes Region champion Grand Valley State University, Northwood University, and Hillsdale College in the Great Lakes Regional Crossover in Wheeling, West Virginia.
USI, which was 21-9 overall, 8-6 GLVC, will open its GLVC schedule with home matches against Lewis University and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday, September 17, and Saturday, September 18.
In addition to eight conference home matches, the Eagles will host the defending NCAA Division II national champions University of North Alabama Saturday, October 2, as part of a home-and-home series. USI will have eight conference road matches, featuring a trip to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on Northern Kentucky University, and a trip to Florence, Alabama, for the back end of the home-and-home series against North Alabama.
The GLVC Tournament will feature six teams in 2004 and will be played at the conference’s top seed Thursday through Saturday, November 11-13.
With Division II expanding the national tournament to 64 teams, the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Tournament will feature eight teams and will be Thursday through Sunday, November 18-21. The NCAA II Elite Eight will be Thursday through Sunday, December 2-5, on the campus of the top remaining seed.
