USI’s Ellerbusch named GLVC Player of the Week,
Ellerbusch/Wilson earn Tournament honors
University of Southern Indiana volleyball junior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) has been named the GLVC “Player of the Week” for her performance at the Radisson Riverfront Classic this past weekend. She is the first USI volleyball player to earn player of the week honors since Shannon Wells earned the honor November 5, 2002.
Ellerbusch, who also earned All-Tournament honors, led a well-balanced USI attack as the Screaming Eagles were 3-1 tied for second at the Radisson Riverfront Classic.
For the weekend, Ellerbusch averaged 3.4 kills and 0.9 blocks per game while recording a .320 attacking percentage. She had 17 kills and a .696 attacking percentage in USI’s 3-0 victory over South Dakota before tallying 18 kills and a .371 attacking percentage in USI’s 3-2 victory over Lake Superior State.
In addition to Ellerbusch, freshman setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) also was among 10 players to earn All-Tournament honors from the Radisson Riverfront Classic—which featured nine teams, three of which were nationally-ranked teams and another that received votes for the top 25.
Wilson averaged 12.7 assists, 1.1 kills, and 2.6 digs per game while setting USI’s offense to a .254 attacking percentage. She had back-to-back 60-assist performances in USI’s five-game victories against Lake Superior State and North Dakota.
USI will compete in the Great Lakes Regional Crossover this Friday and Saturday in Wheeling, West Virginia.
