Eagles sweep Riverwomen,
Move into tie for first place

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Senior middle blocker Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) and sophomore outside hitter Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) combined for 27 kills and a .412 attacking percentage to lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 30-21, 30-19, 30-15 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at the Physical Activities Center.
The Screaming Eagles (15-5, 9-1 GLVC) move into a three-way tie for first in the GLVC with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Indianapolis. USI plays both teams at the PAC next week.
USI used a 17-3 run in the first game and a 10-2 run in the second game to overcome early deficits. The Eagles hit .500 and recorded 18 kills in the third game to close the door on the Riverwomen, who fall to 7-12 overall and 3-7 in the GLVC.
Gross recorded eight of her match-high 15 kills in the second game as she finished with a .464 attacking percentage. Doubler finished with 12 kills and a .348 attacking percentage.
Freshman setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) racked up a match-high 41 assists and seven digs while spurring the Eagle offense to a .330 team attacking percentage. Senior right side hitter Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky) and junior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) each had a match-high 10 digs.
USI will play SIUE Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Indianapolis Friday at 7 p.m. Friday’s match is “PACk the Gym Night” for the Eagles.
