Eagles clinch title with 3-1 victory

EVANSVILLE, Ind.óSophomore outside hitter Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) recorded a .452 attacking percentage and a career-high 24 kills to lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a GLVC championship-clinching 30-19, 30-28, 27-30, 30-20 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friday night at the Mark Twain Building.
The Screaming Eagles (20-6, 14-1 GLVC), who have reached the 20-win plateau for the fifth straight season, also clinched the right to host the GLVC Tournament (November 11-13) for the first time since 2000 and the second time in the programís 25-year history.
Junior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) racked up 16 kills and a .314 attacking percentage, while sophomore outside hitter Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) recorded 15 kills.
Freshman setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) surpassed Kim Boehmerís freshman record for assists in a season with her match-high 57 assists, while sophomore libero Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) racked up a match-high 23 digs to lead USIís defensive charge. Wilson, who now has 1,247 assists in 2004, finished with 11 digs, while senior right side hitter Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky) had 13 digs to go along with six kills and a .312 attacking percentage.
USI can set a school-record for conference victories in the regular season with a victory in its regular-season finale Saturday against Quincy University. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Illinois.
