Ellerbusch, Wilson earn AVCA All-Region honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.óUniversity of Southern Indiana junior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) and freshman setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region team in a vote done by the regionís coaches.

Ellerbusch was named first-team All-Region for the first time after leading the Screaming Eagles with 3.34 kills and 0.87 blocks per game to go with a team-leading .343 attacking percentage.

The first-team All-GLVC performer was named GLVC Player of the Week a school-record three times in 2004 and was selected to the Radisson Riverfront Classic and NCAA II Great Lakes Region All-Tournament teams.

A graduate of Castle High School, Ellerbusch recorded 10 or more kills in 23 of USIís 31 matches and had four double-doubles.

Wilson, who also was selected to the Radisson Riverfront Classic and NCAA II Great Lakes Region All-Tournament teams, earned honorable mention All-Region honors and is the first freshman in the programís 25-year history to earn All-Region honors.

The first-team All-GLVC performer set school records for assists in a single match (76) and assists in a season for a freshman (1,471). She averaged 12.79 assists, 0.91 kills, 2.31 digs, and 0.43 blocks per game while recording a .301 attacking percentage.

Wilson, who led USIís attack to a .251 attacking percentage, recorded 12 double-doubles and was three kills away from a triple-double against the University of Alabama-Huntsville at the start of the season. She finished with the second-highest assist total in school history, just 20 shy of former All-American Kim Boehmerís school-record.

The Eagles finished the 2004 campaign with a 24-7 record, 15-1 in the GLVC, and advanced to the NCAA II Great Lakes Region semifinals after winning the GLVC regular season and tournament titles.
