USI volleyball falls twice on Saturday

JOPLIN, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday in the Missouri Southern Invitational in Joplin, Missouri. USI falls to 1-3 to begin the 2005 campaign.
In the morning match, Emporia State University defeated USI, 3-1 (30-18, 31-33, 30-23, 30-13). The Eagles were led by junior outside hitter Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana), who had 14 kills, and freshman middle blocker Meg Buschman (Reynolds, Indiana), who had 10 kills.
Sophomore setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) directed the USI attack with 39 assists.
USI lost its afternoon match to 18th-ranked Washburn University, 3-0 (30-12, 30-23, 32-30). Senior middle hitter Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) led USI with nine kills, while Wilson posted 31 assists.
The Eagles will resume regular season tournament action next weekend at the Cougar Classic, hosted by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. USI is scheduled to play Missouri Southern State and region rival Northern Michigan University on September 2 and Truman State University and Alderson Broadus University on September 3.
