Volleyball sweeps Alderson-Broaddus,
Falls to No. 2 Truman State

EDWARDSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team bounced back from a 3-0 setback to No. 2 Truman State University by sweeping Alderson-Broaddus 30-20, 30-24, 30-18 in the Cougar Classic Saturday at the Vadalabene Center.
USI (4-4) set the tone early against Alderson-Broaddus, attacking at a .465 clip while racking up 23 kills in the first game. Junior outside hitter Emily Ryan
(Batesville, Indiana) had a match-high 19 kills to go with a .483 attacking percentage, while sophomore middle blocker Molly Rahman
(Ferdinand, Indiana) chipped in 13 kills and a match-high .522 attacking percentage.
Freshman middle blocker Meg Buschman
(Reynolds, Indiana) added 12 kills and sophomore setter Stephanie Wilson
(Terre Haute, Indiana) had a match-high 49 assists. For the match, the Screaming Eagles finished with a season-best .400 attacking percentage.
Defensively, senior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch
(Newburgh, Indiana) and freshman libero/defensive specialist Amber Gogel
(Ferdinand, Indiana) led the Eagles with 14 and 11 digs, respectively. Ellerbusch also chipped in nine kills and a .412 attacking percentage.
Earlier in the day, Truman State was able to hold the Eagle attack at bay. USI, which was without the services of junior outside hitter Chelse Doubler
(Griffin, Indiana), was held to a .070 attacking percentage as the Bulldogs recorded the 30-22, 30-18, 30-23 victory.
Ryan led the Eagles with 13 kills, while Gogel and defensive specialist/libero Mandy Probst
(Wheeler, Illinois) led USI with 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
The Eagles return to action September 9 when they take part in the Holiday Inn Express/University of Alabama-Huntsville Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama.
