Eagles sweep Nova SE,
Fall to Harding in four

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team swept Nova Southeastern University 30-19, 30-19, 30-21 Friday afternoon at the UAH/Holiday Inn Express Invitational.

Junior outside hitter
Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) had seven of USI’s 15 service aces, while hammering down 10 kills and a .714 attacking percentage in the victory. Senior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) added a match-high 11 kills, 13 digs, and four blocks, while attacking at a .500 clip as the Screaming Eagles won for the second straight match.
Freshman libero
Amber Gogel (Ferdinand, Indiana) also added 11 digs, while sophomore setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) finished with a match-high 27 assists.
Things did not go as well for the Eagles in their nightcap as they fell to Harding University, a team receiving votes in the latest CSTV/AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ poll, in four games.
USI (5-5) won the first game 30-28, but fell 14-30, 21-30, 31-33 in the final three games. The Eagles committed 16 attacking errors in the second game alone and hit just .142 for the match.
Junior outside hitter
Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) led USI with 16 kills, while Doubler and freshman middle blocker
Meg Buschman (Ferdinand, Indiana) chipped in 13 kills apiece. Gogel and junior defensive specialist
Mandy Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) led the Eagles with 24 and 11 digs, respectively.
Wilson led the team with 53 assists, while Ellerbusch chipped in 11 kills in the loss.
The Eagles finish the UAH/Holiday Inn Express Invitational Saturday with the University of Montevallo at 1:30 p.m. and the University of Alabama-Huntsville at 3:30 p.m.
