Wilson, Rahman net academic awards
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana volleyball junior setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) and junior middle blocker Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) have earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V honors in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wilson was named to the second team, while Rahman netted third-team honors.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America, the nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The student athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
District V includes NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA institutions from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Manitoba and Ontario.
Wilson, who has a 4.00 grade point average as a chemistry major, averaged a team-leading 11.14 assists per game in 2006 and earned honorable mention All-GLVC honors, marking the third time in her career she has been selected All-GLVC. This marks the second straight season that Wilson has been named Academic All-District V as she earned second-team honors as a sophomore in 2005.
A two-time Academic All-GLVC performer, Wilson is second all-time at USI with 3,802 career assists.
Rahman, who is earning her first Academic All-District honor, posted career-high numbers in kills (2.53 kpg), blocks (1.07 bpg), and service aces (0.29 sapg) as a junior in 2006. She also posted a career and team-high .307 attacking percentage.
Like Wilson, Rahman also is a two-time Academic All-GLVC performer. She has a 3.97 GPA as an exercise science major.
The Screaming Eagles ended the season with a 17-11 mark and were 9-7 in the GLVC. They lost to Lewis University in the first round of the GLVC Tournament after finishing sixth in the conference during the regular season.
