Eagles sweep Oakland City

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team rallied from an 18-13 deficit in game three to finish a 30-17, 30-17, 30-25 sweep over Oakland City University Tuesday night at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (13-13), which snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory, hit .371 in game one and .300 in game two to grab a commanding two-set lead. The Screaming Eagles, who finished the match with a .268 attacking clip, rallied earlier in the third frame before falling down by five points midway through the final set.
The Eagles' defense, led by sophomore libero Julia Ridley
(Madisonville, Kentucky), held the Lady Oaks (8-18) to a .000 attacking percentage, including a negative .017 clip in the third game. Ridley finished the match with a career-high 27 digs, including 11 in both the first and third games.
Sophomore setter Melanie Pund
(Ferdinand, Indiana), who had a match-high 44 assists, chipped in 11 digs and a match-high tying four blocks, while freshman defensive specialist Janae Curnutt
(Arcadia, Indiana) finished with 11 digs and two service aces.
Offensively, sophomore right side hitter Kathi Hindman
(Carmel, Indiana) and junior middle blocker Meg Buschman
(Reynolds, Indiana) each had 11 kills to lead the Eagles. Buschman had four blocks, while Hindman chipped in three blocks and a .429 attacking percentage.
USI, which has a one-game lead on the final wild card spot for the GLVC Tournament, finishes the regular season this weekend when it hosts the University of Missouri-Rolla Friday at 7 p.m. and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at 3 p.m. The Eagles will honor their two seniors—setter Stephanie Wilson
(Terre Haute, Indiana) and middle blocker Molly Rahman
(Ferdinand, Indiana)—prior to the Missouri-St. Louis match as part of their Senior Day festivities.
