Eagles gearing up for first GLVC road trip
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on Rockhurst University. USI finishes its first GLVC road swing Saturday when it visits Springfield, Missouri, and Drury University for a 3 p.m. match.
USI (6-4, 1-1 GLVC) has won three of its last four matches but is looking to bounce back from a tough four-set loss to the University of Missouri-St. Louis last Saturday.
The Screaming Eagles opened GLVC play the night before with a four-set victory over Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Senior middle blocker Margaret Buschman (Reynolds, Indiana) and junior middle blocker Ashley Henricks (Greenwood, Indiana) led USI last weekend. Buschman averaged 3.00 kills and 1.00 blocks per set while attacking at a .328 clip. Henricks chipped in 2.00 kills and 1.50 blocks per set while attacking at a .333 clip.
Rockhurst (8-4, 3-0 GLVC) has won four of its last five matches and has been a thorn in USI's side since joining the GLVC in 2005. The Eagles are 0-6 against the Hawks during that span, though three of those six matches have been five-set duals.
USI is looking to avenge its first loss to Drury (5-6, 1-2 GLVC) since the Panthers joined the conference in 2005. Drury, which defeated USI in three sets in Springfield last season, has lost four of its last five matches since opening the season with a 4-2 mark.
Following USI's two-match road swing, the Eagles return home to take on No. 23-ranked University of Indianapolis Tuesday. That contest starts a four-match home stretch for the Eagles.
