Eagles get first taste of GLVC East Division,
Host No. 23 UIndy Tuesday night
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team gets its first taste of the GLVC's East Division when it hosts the No. 23-ranked University of Indianapolis Greyhounds Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center.
USI's match with UIndy is the first of a four-match homestand that has the Screaming Eagles squaring off with Northern Kentucky University Friday at 7 p.m., Saint Joseph's College Saturday at 3 p.m., and the University of North Alabama September 30.
The Eagles (6-6, 1-3 GLVC) are looking to put an end to a three-match losing streak after a tough five-set decision at Drury University Saturday. USI, which opened the match with a convincing win in the first set, rallied from a 2-1 deficit before falling 15-9 in the final frame.
Junior outside hitter Courtney Bealor (LaPorte, Indiana) led the Eagles with 21 kills to go along with 17 digs and five blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Brittani Oliver (Indianapolis, Indiana) recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs.
For the season, Oliver leads the Eagles with 2.47 kills per set, while senior middle blocker Margaret Buschman (Reynolds, Indiana) leads USI with a .263 attacking percentage and 1.11 blocks per game.
UIndy (11-3, 4-1 GLVC) enters the PAC after a tough four-set loss at Northern Kentucky on Saturday. The Greyhounds were tabbed as the coaches' pick to win the GLVC East Division after claiming the Division title last year with an 18-1 conference record.
USI has lost four straight to the Greyhounds, two of which were in the GLVC Tournament, but lead the all-time series (since 1989), 15-13.
