USI pounds Pumas to five-match skid,
Eagles hit .392 to record three-set sweep

(Reynolds, Indiana) had a match-high 12 kills and a .579 attacking percentage, while junior setter Melanie Pund
(Ferdinand, Indiana) dished out a match-high 39 assists as the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team slammed Saint Joseph's College 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
The Screaming Eagles (7-8, 2-5 GLVC) posted a blistering .392 attacking percentage—its highest since racking up a .413 hitting percentage against the University of Missouri-St. Louis on September 23, 2006—en route to their first victory in the last six matches.
USI, which hit .379 in the first set, used an 8-1 run to close out the opening frame and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
With the Eagles trailing 20-17 late in the second frame, Pund found four different players for kills as USI outscored the Pumas 8-3 to take the second set and grab a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. Buschman scored USI's last two points on kills, while junior right side hitter Kathi Hindman
(Carmel, Indiana) and junior middle blocker Ashley Henricks
(Greenwood, Indiana) recorded kills to give the Eagles their first three points in the run.
Following the intermission, the Eagles stormed out of the gates, using an 11-3 run to take a commanding 13-5 lead. USI hit .444 in the final game as it claimed its first three-set sweep since September 5.
The Eagles also got solid offensive efforts out of junior outside hitter Courtney Bealor
(LaPorte, Indiana) and sophomore outside hitter Brittani Oliver
(Indianapolis, Indiana). Bealor racked up 10 kills and a .400 attacking percentage, while Oliver finished with 11 kills, a .292 attacking percentage, and seven digs.
Sophomore libero Janae Curnutt
(Arcadia, Indiana) tallied a team-high 11 digs in the victory.
USI wraps up its four-match homestand Tuesday at 5 p.m. when it hosts the University of North Alabama at the PAC.
