Eagles sweep Kentucky Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, Ky.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team racked up 40 kills and hit .290 as it swept Kentucky Wesleyan College 25-17, 25-21, 28-26 Friday night at Jones Gymnasium.
USI (10-10, 4-6 GLVC) set the tone for the match early as it hit .474 and had 4.0 team blocks in the opening set to run away with an eight-point win and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Screaming Eagles, who have won three straight matches to reach the .500 mark for the first time since September 23, reeled off a 6-2 run to claim the second set and increase their match lead to 2-0. USI fought off a set-point in the third frame to clinch the match in three games.
Senior middle blocker Margaret Buschman
(Reynolds, Indiana) had eight kills and attacked at a .667 clip in just two sets to lead USI, which pulled to within a half game of third place in the GLVC West Division.
Junior middle blocker Ashley Henricks
(Greenwood, Indiana) and junior right side hitter Kathi Hindman
(Carmel, Indiana) each had six kills and combined for a .360 attacking percentage to aid the Eagles' offensive effort.
Henricks also had a match-high five blocks, while Hindman had a pair of blocks and two service aces.
Junior setter Melanie Pund
(Ferdinand, Indiana) dished out a match-high 33 assists, while sophomore libero Jaclyn Johnson
(Newburgh, Indiana) had a match-high nine digs.
The Eagles (10-10, 4-6 GLVC) return to action Saturday when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on Bellarmine University in a critical GLVC match. Bellarmine (6-8, 6-4 GLVC) is in fourth place in the GLVC East Division entering Saturday's match.
