Eagles impressive in 3-0 win against Riverwomen

The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-0, this afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles improve their record to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Riverwomen fall to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the GLVC.
USI dominated the match from beginning to end, racking up a .325 hitting percentage while holding UMSLís attacking percentage to just .051.
Junior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) led all attackers with 14 kills while fellow classmate Kristy Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) posted a match-high 15 defensive digs.
Mt. Vernon native Greta Grinstead had her best day as an Eagle, racking up 13 kills and a .591 attacking percentage. Senior middle blocker Leah Mercer (Evansville, Indiana) contributed eight kills and 11 digs while freshman middle blocker Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) added 11 kills and 13 digs in the win.
Sophomore setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) set the table for Eagle hitters this afternoon. Boehmer tallied a match-high 37 assists while dishing in 10 digs.
USI will continue its seven-match homestand Wednesday night when it entertains Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the PAC.
