Eagles place three on All-GLVC squad
The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team placed three players on the 2001 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference teams, which were announced over the weekend at the GLVC Tournament in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
Junior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) and sophomore setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) were selected to the first team while Evansville native Leah Mercer (North) was selected second-team All-GLVC.
Wells, who was selected first-team All-GLVC for the second consecutive season, led the Eagles with 554 kills and a career-high 4.82 kills per game. Wells also led the conference with 0.77 service aces per game (89 total).
In addition, Wells moved into second all-time among USI attackers with 1,313 career kills. She became the career leader in service aces (194) and ranks fifth all-time at USI with 895 career digs.
Like Wells, Boehmer also is being selected first-team All-GLVC for the second straight season. The sophomore broke her own school record for assists in a season (1,271) and led the GLVC with 12.46 assists per game.
Boehmer became the fastest player in USI history to record 2,000 assists. Her 2,507 career assists rank second all-time at USI and is just 162 assists shy of the school record.
Mercer is named second-team All-GLVC for the second straight season. The North graduate posted a career-high .305 attacking percentage and 391 kills. The .305 attacking percentage was also a team high. Mercer is sixth all-time at USI with 927 career kills and 763 career digs.
The three all-conference selections led the Eagles to their second consecutive 20-win season (22-10 overall, 11-4 GLVC) and second consecutive conference championship match.
