Wells named to Daktronics All-Region squad
University of Southern Indiana junior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) was named to the Daktronics second team All-Great Lakes Region volleyball team for the second consecutive season. The Daktronics teams are voted upon by NCAA Division II sports information directors.
Wells, who was selected first-team All-GLVC for the second consecutive season, led the Eagles with 554 kills and a career-high 4.82 kills per game. Wells also led the conference with 0.77 service aces per game (89 total).
In addition, Wells moved into second all-time among USI attackers with 1,313 career kills. She became the career leader in service aces (194) and ranks fifth all-time at USI with 895 career digs.
Wells is the first Eagle volleyball player to be named All-Region twice and one of three USI volleyball players to be named All-Great Lakes Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association or the Daktronics Volleyball All-America program. Her teammate, sophomore setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio), was named All-Region by the AVCA in November.
Former USI All-GLVC performer Sheri Kaiser became USI's first AVCA All-Region player in 1993.
