#6 Eagles cruise to 91-63 victory at KWC,
Enter GLVC tournament with second seed

The sixth-ranked University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team closed its 2001-02 regular season schedule with a convincing 91-63 victory over rival Kentucky Wesleyan College at the Sportscenter in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Screaming Eagles finished the regular season with a 23-5 overall record, 16-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Panthers of KWC finish their season with a 6-21 overall mark, 2-18 in the GLVC.
USI committed 32 turnovers but shot 59.0 percent from the floor, including 56.3 percent from behind the arc. The Eagles held the Panthers to just 40.9 percent from the floor, including a dismal 9.1 percent from behind the arc.
After using a 5-0 run to open the game, the Eagles reeled off an 8-0 lead to take a 19-6 lead with 13:40 to go in the first period. Sophomore forward Jessica Stuckman (Quincy, Illinois) scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the first frame as the Eagles went into the locker rooms with a 50-36 lead.
USI had the hot hand in the first period, knocking down 65.6 percent of the 32 shots it took.
The Eagles exploded for 15 straight points to open the second period as they took a commanding 65-36 lead with 13:51 to go in the contest. USI expanded its lead to as many as 39 points, before finishing with the 91-63 victory.
Senior guard Jasmine Moore (Chicago, Illinois) followed Stuckman with 16 points and a game-high seven assists.
Joining Stuckman and Moore in double-figure scoring was senior forward Casey Hughes (Bicknell, Indiana) and senior center Michelle Irwin (Louisville, Kentucky). Hughes contributed 14 points and had three steals while Irwin tapped in with 10 points and tied Stuckman for the team lead with six rebounds.
USI, which enters the GLVC tournament with the second seed, will face the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, the seventh seed in the GLVC tournament, Wednesday, February 27, in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.
