USI women’s basketball ranked ninth in preseason poll
The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team is ranked ninth in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released Friday morning. The Screaming Eagles, who finished 10th in last season’s poll, return two starters from a squad that finished 27-6 overall last season and advanced to a second consecutive NCAA II Tournament.
Northern Kentucky University was the only other team from the Great Lakes Valley Conference that was ranked in the poll. The Norse, who finished the 2001-02 season with a 26-7 mark, were ranked sixth in the poll. Bellarmine University and Quincy University each received votes.
USI’s second opponent this season, Mars Hill College, was ranked 22nd in the poll. USI will play Mars Hill at the Carson-Newman College Tournament in Jeffersonville, Tennessee, Saturday, November 23.
The Eagles will open their 2002-03 exhibition schedule Saturday, November 16, when they travel north to play Indiana State University. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
USI will open the regular season at Carson-Newman College Friday, November 22. The Eagles will open their home schedule Thursday, December 5, when they host the University of Indianapolis.
