USI drops season opener 71-48

Offensive troubles plagued the University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team as it dropped the season opener to Carson-Newman College, 71-48, in the Eagles Club Classic in Jeffersonville, Tennessee, Friday evening. The Screaming Eagles fall to 0-1, while Carson-Newman goes to 1-0.
The Eagles were only able to hit 25 percent from the field (15-58), 22 percent from behind the arc (4-18). The squad also committed 23 turnovers. Carson-Newman jumped out to a commanding lead in the opening minutes and led at half time 38-22.
USI junior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) led the Eagles with 16 points in her debut. She was followed by senior guard/forward Sarah McIntosh (Cabery, Illinois) and senior guard Bethany Miller (Princeton, Indiana) with eight points each. McIntosh led the USI on the boards with nine while adding eight points.
USI will complete action in the Eagle Club Classic when they play #22 Mars Hill College Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City. Game time is 3 p.m. The Eagles start Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday, November 30, at Kentucky Wesleyan College in a 5:15 p.m. start at the Sportscenter.
The first home game for the Eagles will not be until Thursday, December 5, in the GLVC home opener against the University of Indianapolis.
