Sherrod nets GLVC honors
University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball senior forward/center Africa Sherrod (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) has earned co-Great Lakes Valley Conference “Player of the Week” honors after leading the Screaming Eagles past NAIA II #14 Marian College this past Saturday.
Sherrod connected on 7-of-11 shots from the floor and 12-of-13 shots from the charity stripe as she rung up a career and game-high 27 points. She also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds marking the sixth consecutive game Sherrod has recorded a double-double.
The streak ties a school-record, held by assistant coach LeAnn Freeland, for consecutive games with a double-double.
“Averaging double-figures in rebounds is tremendous, especially with the tough schedule we have played,” head coach Rick Stein. “She is doing it against quality opponents. Right now, I think myself, the coaches, and our team has that expectation of her every night. She is going to get double-figure rebounds and she is going to find a way to get that double-double.”
The honor marks the third time in Sherrod’s career that she has earned GLVC “Player of the Week” honors. Sherrod earned the honor in consecutive weeks last season.
Wisconsin-Parkside’s Jamie Nebel also earned co-GLVC “Player of the Week” honors after leading the Lady Rangers to wins over Ferris State University and Lake Superior State University.
