USI women’s basketball signs Kentucky native
The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team announced the signing of 5’4” point guard Lauren Parrish (Shepherdsville, Kentucky) to a national letter of intent for the 2003-04 campaign. Parrish is the first player this spring and the fourth player overall to sign with head coach Rick Stein’s Screaming Eagles.
“Lauren is a well-rounded person who has had great success on and off the court,” Stein said. “She comes from a strong program at Mercy and has had excellent coaching throughout her career.”
A senior at Mercy Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, Parrish brings an impressive resume to USI. She is the KABC VII Region Player of the Year and was named All-State by the Louisville Courier and Journal and by the Herald Leader.
In addition to being named All-State, Parrish is a Kentucky Basketball Top 55 player and was nominated for the Ronald McDonald Team. She has received an invitation to tryout for the Kentucky All-Stars and will play in the Kentucky-Ohio All-Star game.
A two-time All-District and All-Region performer, Parrish helped Mercy Academy to district championships in 2002 and 2003 as well as the Northern Kentucky Classic Championship. She averaged seven assists and four steals while shooting 49 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range.
“Lauren is a true point guard who knows how to get her teammates open shots,” Stein explained. “She is an outstanding passer in the full court and is used to playing up-tempo basketball.”
An all-around athlete, Parrish has earned 10 varsity letters—four in basketball and three each in soccer and softball.
