USI’s Johnson earns GLVC honors
University of Southern Indiana junior guard Kennitra Johnson (New Albany, Indiana) was named co-GLVC “Player of the Week” for her 24-point performance against Pittsburg State University this past Saturday.
Johnson scored five of her team-high 24 points in the final minute to lift the Screaming Eagles to a 91-86 win in USI’s regular-season opener. PSU had pulled to within one point at 86-85, but Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 43 seconds left and a pair of free throws with 21 seconds to give USI the victory.
She also recorded three assists, two blocked shots, and four steals in 31 minutes of work. For the game, Johnson was 8-of-13 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Lewis University’s Mary Moskal shared the honor after scoring 24 points on 11-of-11 shooting in her first collegiate game.
USI will be in action tonight as the Eagles host Hillsdale College (0-1) in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Physical Activities Center. Hillsdale is coming off a 97-56 loss to #9 Drury University this past Saturday.
