Truitt earns second GLVC honor
University of Southern Indiana junior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) was named the GLVC's "Player of the Week" for her efforts in USI's victories over Saint Joseph's College and the University of Indianapolis this past weekend. It is the second time this season that Truitt has earned the honor and the third time this season a Screaming Eagle has earned the honor.
Truitt averaged 26.0 points per game and knocked down 11 three-pointers to help the Eagles move from the seventh seed in the GLVC Tournament to the fifth seed. In addition, Truitt's efforts helped the Eagles get back into the hunt for an at-large berth in the NCAA II Tournament.
Against Saint Joseph's, Truitt scored a game-high 21 points while collecting five steals in an 81-61 victory. She came back on Saturday to record a career-high 31 points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots to lift the Eagles past Indianapolis, 86-68.
For the season, Truitt leads the Eagles and is second in the GLVC with 17.1 points per game. Her 17.8 points per contest in conference-only games is a GLVC best.
Truitt, who leads the GLVC in made three-pointers per game (3.12), set USI's single-season record for three pointers (78). She has scored 20 or more points in 10 games this year.
USI will take on the fourth seed, Lewis University, at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in the first round of the GLVC Tournament at Roberts Stadium.
