USI women’s basketball faces LSSU in first round,
Truitt, Lindsey earn GLVC honors
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team is in the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Tournament for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Screaming Eagles received the seventh seed in the tournament and will play the second seed, Lake Superior State University, in the first round Friday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m. (CST) in Quincy, Illinois.
USI (20-9) received the at-large berth after falling in overtime to the GLVC regular-season and tournament champion, Quincy University, in the GLVC Tournament semifinals. The Eagles have won six of their last eight games as they enter the NCAA II Tournament for the seventh time in the program’s 29-year history.
Quincy will be the top seed and will play eighth-seeded Northern Kentucky University, while the University of Indianapolis, the fourth seed, will play fifth-seeded Bellarmine University.
In USI’s side of the bracket, the third-seed, Ferris State University, will play sixth-seeded Ashland University.
USI is led by junior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) and senior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois). Truitt was named second-team All-GLVC after leading the Eagles in the regular season with 17.1 points per game.
Lindsey averaged 18.0 points per game in the GLVC Tournament and was named to the GLVC All-Tournament team.
