USI women’s basketball inks Brandon

The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team announced the signing of 5’11” junior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) to a national letter of intent for the 2004-05 season. Brandon is the second player this spring and the third player overall to sign with Head Coach Rick Stein’s Screaming Eagles.

Brandon will be transferring to USI from Parkland College, Stein’s junior college alma mater, where she averaged 11.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2003-04. Her efforts helped the Cobra’s to a 30-5 record and a 14-0 mark in the Central Illinois Conference.

She also helped lead Parkland to the Region XXIV championship and a sixth-place finish at the NJCAA II Tournament, as well as a number one ranking in the NJCAA II in 2003-04. For her efforts as a sophomore, Brandon earned All-Conference, All-Region, and All-NJCAA II Tournament honors.

As a freshman in 2002-03, Brandon averaged 6.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 29 contests and was voted Parkland’s most improved player. She helped lead the Cobras to the first of two straight conference championships in 2002-03.

A graduate of Danville High School, Brandon earned nine varsity letters in basketball, soccer, track and field, and volleyball. She was the basketball team’s MVP and earned honorable mention All-Conference honors as a junior and senior.

Brandon averaged 14.2 points per game as a junior to help lead DHS to a regional championship and 12.6 points per contests as a senior. She also earned All-Area honors in soccer and was a two-time team MVP in volleyball.

“Sabrina is a proven winner who excels on and off the court,” Stein explained. “She was a major factor in Parkland’s run to a number one ranking and its sixth place finish in the national tournament. We are excited to have Sabrina join our Screaming Eagle family.”

Brandon joins 5’9” guard Marshay Jolly (Merrillville, Indiana) and 6’1” forward/center Jessica Minnick (Carmi, Illinois) in signing with the Eagles for the 2004-05 season.
