USI women’s basketball signs Brown to NLI
The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team announced the signing of 5’4” junior point guard Tiara Brown (Normal, Illinois) for the 2004-05 season. Brown is the fourth player to sign with Head Coach Rick Stein’s Screaming Eagles for the upcoming campaign.
Brown will join the Eagles after spending the previous two seasons with Lake Land College where she helped lead the Lady Lakers to a two-year record of 43-22.
As a sophomore in 2003-04, Brown finished 20th in the NJCAA II in assists per game (5.0) and was second on the squad with 12.3 points per contest. Her efforts led LLC to a 22-10 record and lifted her to All-Conference honors.
She helped the Lady Lakers to a 21-12 mark as a freshman in 2002-03 by averaging a team-high 4.9 assists to go along with 7.2 points per outing.
Overall, Brown averaged 9.7 points and 4.9 assists per game during her two-year stint with the Lady Lakers. She was named the “Freshman of the Year” in 2002-03.
Prior to attending Lake Land, Brown graduated from University High School in Normal, Illinois, where she earned five varsity letters in basketball and track and field.
“Tiara is a strong point guard with great court awareness,” Stein said. “She is used to a fast-paced style of play and rarely makes mistakes with the ball in her hands. Tiara will bring needed experience at the point guard position and will fit in nicely with our program.”
Brown, who averaged 1.9 steals per game at LLC, joins 5’11” junior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois), 5’9” freshman guard Marshay Jolly (Merrillville, Indiana), and 6’1” freshman forward/center Jessica Minnick (Carmi, Illinois) in signing with the Eagles for the 2004-05 season.
