Engleking, Truitt lead USI women to victory
USI 80, West Virginia Wesleyan 60
EVANSVILLE, Ind.óSenior forward/center Andrea Engleking (Charlottesville, Indiana) scored a career-high 26 points and senior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) chipped in a season-high 22 points to lead the University of Southern Indiana womenís basketball team to an 80-60 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
The Screaming Eagles (7-2) used a 13-2 run in the first half to take control of the contest. Engleking scored six points and Truitt hit one of her season-high six three-pointers during the run that put USI up 33-20 with 6:27 to play in the opening period.
USI shot 51.4 percent from the field while Truitt and Engleking combined for 32 points in the first half as the Eagles raced out to a 47-31 lead at the intermission.
The Eagles used a lot of ball movement in the game as they finished with 24 assists. Junior guard Tiara Brown (Normal, Illinois) and sophomore guard Leah Stormont (Princeton, Indiana) each had a game-high six assists to help the Eagles get easy looks at the basket.
Engleking benefited from the ball movement as she was 8-of-9 from the floor and made 11 trips to the free throw line, converting on 10 of those attempts.
Truitt, who was 6-of-11 from three-point range, connected on two three-pointers early in the game to help open up the inside game for the Eagles.
USI also got a solid effort from freshman center Emily Meier (Mackinaw, Illinois). Meier finished the game with a career-high eight points and seven rebounds. Engleking had a game-high eight rebounds as the Eagles out-rebounded the Bobcats 39-32.
WVWC (4-4) was led by sophomore guard Sarah Grabís 19 points.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they host the University of North Alabama for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the PAC.
