USI drops second straight at home

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball suffered a second straight set-back this week, losing to Northern Kentucky University, 81-55, Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI falls to 10-4 overall and 3-4 in the GLVC, while NKU goes to 7-7 overall, 5-3 in the GLVC.
After a very close first half that concluded with the Screaming Eagles trailing 32-29, USI took its first lead of the game, 35-34, with 18:18 to play in the game. The Norse rebounded with a 16-2 run to retake the lead, 50-37, and put the game away with their biggest lead coming in the form of the 81-55 final.
The Norse took advantage of 43 trips to charity stripe, converting on 34 free throws, and 21 USI turnovers, compiling 22 points off Eagle miscues. USI had only nine trips to the free throw line, making eight.
USI senior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) led the Eagles with 15 points and five rebounds, while junior guard Tiara Brown (Normal, Illinois) and junior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) dropped in 10 points each. Brown also led the Eagles with four steals.
The Eagles go on the road for a pair of GLVC contests next week. USI will travel to Saint Joseph’s College on January 13 for a 5:15 p.m. contest and to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside for a 1 p.m. tip-off. The next home game for USI is January 20 when the Eagles host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
