USI women’s basketball signs 5’8” guard
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team announced that 5’8” junior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) has signed a national letter of intent to play with Head Coach Rick Stein’s Screaming Eagles in 2005-06.
Thiesenhusen will transfer from Jefferson College where she averaged 12.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2004-05. Her efforts helped Jefferson to a 28-4 record and the second round of the NJCAA Division I Region XVI Tournament.
As a freshman in 2003-04, Thiesenhusen averaged 13.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. She earned Academic All-Region honors as well as All-Conference honors.
A graduate of Muskego High School, Thiesenhusen earned All-Division, All-Conference, All-Suburban, and All-Weukesha County honors. She also was the conference player of the year in basketball as well as an All-Division and All-Conference performer in softball.
“Katie can shoot the ‘three’ and get to the rim, but also has point guard skills when it comes to passing the basketball,” Stein said. “She sees the floor extremely well and will make everyone around her better.
“Katie was an immediate impact player at Jefferson College and should be here at USI as well,” Stein concluded.
Thiesenhusen is the fifth player that Stein has added for next season’s squad. She joins 6’2” junior post player Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois), 6’0” sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana), 6’2” freshman post player Brittany Neuman (Huntingburg, Indiana), and 5’4” freshman point guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois).
