USI women start season in Disney World

2005-06 Schedule
Disney Information

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team announced its schedule for the 2005-06 season, which will start November 4 at the prestigious Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic in Orlando, Florida. The Screaming Eagles have the possibility of playing 11 games against 2004-05 NCAA II Tournament participants, five of which are featured in the Division II Tip-Off Classic

Playing in the Division II Tip-Off Classic for the third time, the Eagles start with Columbus State University and could have a second-round match-up with the University of North Dakota. CSU defeated USI in the 2001 NCAA II Elite Eight, while UND defeated the Eagles in the 1997 NCAA II Championship game.

Following the three-game tournament, the Eagles will open a four-game homestand, starting with Brescia University November 15. Regional foes Northwood University and Central State University will visit the Physical Activities Center during the homestand as will West Virginia Wesleyan College.

GLVC play begins December 1 when the Eagles visit the University of Missouri-Rolla. USI finishes the short two-game road trip in St. Louis as it takes on the University of Missouri-St. Louis December 3.

The GLVC will feature a 14-team league as national power Drury University, which was 29-2 and ranked fifth in the final poll last season, and Rockhurst University join UMR in their inaugural season in the conference. The league also will be split into two divisions, with seven teams in the East Division and seven in the West Division.

USI will compete in the West Division along with Drury, UMR, Rockhurst, UMSL, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and defending GLVC champion Quincy University. USI will play each team in its division twice and each team from the East Division once.

The Eagles finish 2005 and begin 2006 at the PAC as they host six straight home games, starting with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside December 8. USI’s longest homestand of the season will feature four regional games, two of which are league contests, and will end January 2 when the Eagles host the University of North Alabama.

Following the six-game home stretch, the Eagle will take to the road for two games against rivals Bellarmine University (January 5) and Northern Kentucky University (January 7). After home games against Quincy and SIUE, the Eagles take to the road for two more games, against Drury and Rockhurst, January 19 and 21.

Home games against the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph’s College wrap USI’s January slate and a road date with rival Kentucky Wesleyan College February 4 tips off the final month of the regular season.

Homecoming is February 11 when the Eagles host Rockhurst, while Senior Day is February 25 when UMSL visits the PAC. The eight-team GLVC Tournament will be held at Robert’s Stadium March 2-5 and the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament will be March 10-13. The NCAA II Elite Eight is March 22-25 at the Hot Springs Convention Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
