Eagles release 2006-07 slate,
Open season at Central Missouri State
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team released its schedule for the 2006-07 campaign.
USI's slate features 13 home games, in addition to an exhibition game, in the newly renovated Physical Activities Center.
The Screaming Eagles start play with an exhibition against the St. Louis Goldstars November 3, before opening the season on the road November 15 against Central Missouri State University.
USI's non-conference schedule features home games against the University of Illinois-Springfield, Christian Brothers University, Marygrove College, and Harris Stowe State University. The Eagles also play at Wayne State University in addition to the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge in which USI will play Wayne State for a second time as well as Ferris State University. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is the host of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge, which takes place December 29-30.
GLVC play starts December 2 when Kentucky Wesleyan College visits the PAC for the first time since January 2005. KWC is one of three GLVC East Division Schools to visit the PAC in 2006-07 as long-time rivals Bellarmine University and defending GLVC Tournament champion Northern Kentucky University also visit the PAC for the first time in two seasons in January.
USI will make trips to Saint Joseph's College, the University of Indianapolis, Lewis University, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to round out its GLVC East Division schedule.
The Eagles play home-and-home series with GLVC West Division foes Rockhurst University, Drury University, SIU Edwardsville, Quincy University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and the University of Missouri-Rolla. USI's home game with UM-Rolla on February 3 is Homecoming for the Eagles, while its contest with Quincy on February 17 is Senior Day.
GLVC Tournament play is March 2-4 at Roberts Stadium, while the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament is March 9-12. The NCAA II Elite Eight is March 21-24 at the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Nebraska.
*Physical Activities will have a new playing surface for the first time since 1989.
*USI has scheduled five teams that were in the 2005-06 NCAA Division II Tournament.
*A total of 11 teams on the schedule were in their respective conference tournaments.
*The schedule includes 10 teams with winning records.
*USI's all-time record against teams on the schedule is 236-217 (.521).
*USI has a home record of 220-143 (.606) since moving into the PAC in 1980-81.
*The Eagles are 142-40 (.780) at the PAC since the 1994-95 season.
*The 2006-07 season will be the second year for the GLVC to be split into divisions. USI was 5-7 versus the West Division and 2-5 against the East Division in 2005-06.
*USI has won 20 or more games and reached the NCAA II Tournament seven times since the 1994-95 season.
*The Eagles return 65.9 percent of their scoring output from 2005-06, including leading scorer and All-GLVC forward Jasmine Baines.
