Eagles snap losing streak in commanding fashion

KENOSHA, Wis.The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team snapped its five-game losing streak with a commanding 75-58 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday afternoon.

USI (12-7, 6-5 GLVC), which trailed by eight at one point in the first half, used a 12-3 run to turn a 28-21 deficit into a 33-31 halftime lead. The Screaming Eagles carried that momentum into the second half where they shot 52.2 percent from the field, while holding the Rangers to 37.5 percent shooting.

The Eagles used a 16-3 run that lasted nearly nine minutes of the second half to turn a 45-42 edge into a comfortable 61-45 advantage.

Missy Glaser



UW-Parkside (13-6, 6-5 GLVC), however, cut the Eagles' lead to 10 on a couple occasions, but junior guard Missy Glaser (Evansville, Indiana) scored six straight points from the free throw line to put the Eagles up 71-55 and safely on their way to the victory.

Sabrina Brandon


Glaser, who was 7-of-9 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range, and 8-of-10 from the free throw line, finished the game with a career-high 24 points. Senior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) added a season-best 19 points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds.

Junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) added nine points, eight of which came in the second half, while senior forward Michelle King (Columbus, Indiana) dished out a team-high four assists.

Senior forward/center Kari Score led the Rangers with 18 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Kayla Ming added 13 points.

The Eagles return to the Physical Activities Center to take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and the University of Missouri-Rolla for homecoming next Saturday at 1 p.m. USI will play its next four games against UMSL and UMR as it travels to St. Louis February 8 and to Rolla, Missouri, February 10.
