USI wins hard-fought battle with Quincy
Thiesenhusen helps Eagles fight off run by Hawks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. University of Southern Indiana senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) sank seven straight free throws in the final two minutes to help the Screaming Eagles win a hard-fought battle with Quincy University, 75-68, Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 15-10 overall and 9-8 in the GLVC, while Quincy falls a game behind the Eagles to 15-10 overall, 8-9 GLVC.

After 17 lead changes and four ties, the Eagles separated themselves from the Hawks with a 9-0 runs with seven minutes to play in the game and take a 57-49 lead. USI would continue to build upon the lead, getting the margin to as many as eight points twice before Quincy would make a final run.

The Hawks began to chip away at the margin after the Eagles posted a 61-53 lead with 3:44 to play. The USI lead sank to four points, 66-62, when Thiesenhusen made her stand at the line.

Thiesnenhusen's seventh free throw put the USI lead back to eight, 72-64. Quincy cut the USI lead to six at 72-66, but would get no closer.

USI had four players reach double figures in the scoring column, led by Thiesenhusen's 18 points. Senior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) followed with 17 points, while sophomore guard Akiya Alexander (Evanston, Illinois) and junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) scored 15 points and 10 points, respectively.

Prior to the contest, USI honored its five seniors Thiesnenhusen, Brandon, guard Leah Stormont (Haubstadt, Indiana), forward Michelle King (Columbus, Indiana), and center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois).

The Eagles will continue their quest for a spot in the GLVC Tournament on the road next week. USI will close out the regular season with a 5:15 p.m. contest at Rockhurst University February 22 and a 1 p.m. contest at Drury University February 24 to close out the regular season.
